Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro unveiled ahead of Detroit

For those who still have sufficient currency surge to grip high end sports cars, the newest and best carcass a must. In trust with that realism, Audi is cranking up the juice on its flagship R8 sports car with the introduction of the R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro, which got an early disclose on the web today. The R8 shares some minus evident bits with its corporate cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo, but pending now the Lambo's V10 engine has remained total to the Italian border of the family.

The R8 V10 will be the lane departing rendering of the R8 LMS that debuted a pair of weeks ago at the Essen Motor Show in Germany. It's 5.2L V10 is rated at 525 horsepower and 390.91 lb-ft of torque in European spec form. Those figures accident a bit shy of the hottest Gallardo LP560-4 even with the same displacement, which ensures that the Lamborghini can still decree a charge premium over the German android. The U.S. rendering of the R8 V10 should continue beautiful close to these records. That will be enough to ambition the 0-62 tear under four seconds to 3.9 seconds. Unfortunately, the R8 is still saddled with the same craptastic 6-zoom R-tronic as the only alternative to its suitable guide gearbox. The R8 V10 now also inches quicker to the magical 200 mph stain with a fatal velocity of 196 mph. The V10 report gets a new set of all-LED headlights for both high and low beams and the scoops on the edge blades now swelling out to suck in the second air desired to nosh and cool the superior engine. A new rear diffuser also helps keep the rear end planted where a set of twin oval tailpipes supplant the courtyard exhausts on the yardstick model. The R8 V10 will be vacant in Germany starting next spiral with a pedestal estimate of EUR 142,400 (approx $180,000) and will make its allowed debut in January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Honda Withdraw From Grand Prix Racing

“Honda Racing is probable to make an announcement on Friday morning UK time that it is withdrawing from wonderful prix racing as a machinery side – and probably shuttering its panel outright.”

That is massive, and unexpected newscast. The last records I read, Honda expenses around 380 - 400 million a year on it’s F1 players (which has been winless apart from Jenson Button backing into the top movement of the platform in Hungary a few years back).

Honda F1 Logo

You can connect that 380 - 400 million a year character into one that I was just reading about Honda sales being down … what was it now, 30%? 35% At any esteem, it was a gigantic dewdrop off. So you put those two together and it could very well mean the people like Ross Brawn (Brawn fer’cris’sake!) could be looking for work.

Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet Unveiled

Audi A5 Cabriolet
Audi A5 CabrioletSo Audi just showed us their newest incarnation of the A5 and S5 luxury sports sedan - a drippy-top convertible, which will supplant the A4/S5 Cabriolet. So let’s get to the purpose - what’s the difference between the criterion coupe and the new A5 and S5 Cabriolet? Quite a bit, actually…

Styling updates enter new rear LED lighting, sport seats with single flush interior, and the S5 Aluminum-optic exterior accents embrace front and rear diffuser blades, mirror housings, and four exhaust pipes. Oh, and they’ve full away the roof and replaced it with cloth, in holder you didn’t detect.

The A5/S5 Cabriolet uses new high-vigor steel to dwindle heaviness and amplify body stiffness, which is a frequent difficult with coupe-to-convertible sports cars. The wheelbase has been bigger to help with conduct and pester comfort by poignant some drivetrain and steering parts around, which also allows for a slash inside gravity, advance portion with the usage.

The leading changes for the A5 and S5 Cabriolet (other than the silky-top,) are the engines. You can still get the 3.2-liter V6 in the A5, but now you can also opt for the same 2.0-turbo engine vacant in the 2009 A4 which produces 211 horsepower (54 hp minus than the 3.2 V6, but 15 more ft-lbs of torque.) Unfortunately, you can no longer get the humbling 4.2-liter V8 for the S5 Cabriolet after the 2010 variety, but in its place for 2011 is a 3.0-liter Supercharged V6 producing 333 horsepower - 19 hp less than the V8 it replaces.

The A5 Cabriolet will obtain a 6-hurry Tiptronic transmission for the quattro AWD sculpt, a CVT for the FWD version, and the S5 will keep the 6-rate Tiptronic pending 2011 when the Supercharged V6 replaces the V8, then it gets a 7-pace S tronic transmission. A handbook transmission will be untaken for the S5.

Hint: There will only be one type year (2010) where the S5 Cabriolet will be made with the 354 horsepower 4.2-liter V8. After that, the Supercharged V6 takes over. This means that V8 S5 Cabriolets will be a partial magazine. Buy it if you can provide it, as you’ll have one of the few

Dodge EV trapped postponed-night taxing

Now that Chrysler has heard that it's prone to get a spare shot of green from the Feds, development of its green Dodge EV can stay on as planned. Fortunately for us, spy shooters have managed to snag some shots of the new exciting sports car out trying late at night. Although the ISO has been boosted through the roof in an effort to capture the cars in the brown lacking president lamps, we can evidently see that Chrysler's been tiring adding Dodge-precise styling basics to the Lotus Europa bodyshell that was worn for the EV thought. The front-end of the car now looks like it rolled out of the Pentastar styling studios with the corporate crosshair framework there and accounted for, which makes the EV look more like the Demon idea from Geneva in '07. With the help of Lotus, which is donating its engineering expertise to Chrysler's venture, and UQM Technologies, which is supplying the thrilling powertrain, Chrysler may actually be able to shock the world by bringing an electric sportscar to market in 2010.

New Subaru notion future to Detroit Auto Show

We awoke this morning to rumors of an impending idea car from Subaru that's supposedly headed to the Detroit Auto Show next month. That's exciting newscast, considering that many automakers, counting Nissan and Infiniti, have announced they will have no official existence at the main sedan show of the year in the U.S. We're not sure what the new model will be, but our best guesstimate would be the pugilist-powered rear-helm steer sportscar that we've been expecting for the last year or so. That vehicle has been jointly developed with Toyota, which owns a large stake in Subaru and has been developing its own kind of the platform, as well. Does this mean that Toyota (or its subsidiary Scion) will also be viewing off its model variety of the eminent RWD sports car? We have no idea, but it wouldn't be all that surprising. Stay tuned.

Ford in farther meeting with Shanghai Auto to push Volvo

The UK's Sunday Mail is treatment that Ford has returned to Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) to make another pitch to retail Volvo. As we told you back in June, SAIC is one of the primary contenders to bark up Volvo. Although Ford had long maintained the Swedish automaker was not for vending, it just admitted it was entertaining offers for the dense. Having salaried $6.4 billion for Volvo back in 1999, it is supposed that Ford is now seeking around $6 billion for the crowd. That's a lot of yaun.

Like the surplus of the commerce, Volvo is struggling in today's souk with third-lodge sales down 24 percent. It has cut thousands of jobs and has even sought assistance from the Swedish government. Besides SAIC, Hyundai Motor Co. is still believed to be in the pursue for Volvo, as well as the Swedish government itself, while that seems doubtful.

If SAIC does end in Chinese hands, it won't be their first experience structure Volvos. The Chinese-market-only, long-wheelbase S80L is already being built at the CFMA Chongqing place in China, but that is a unique partnership for now and it is ambiguous how the sale of Volvo to SAIC would disturb that arrangement.
